Just yesterday, I got a call from a perky telemarketer hoping to give me one of two free gifts in exchange for evaluating a product. The choices were:
- $1000 in coupons for Brand Name items at my local food store
- One 3-day/2-night weekend at a resort of my choice anywhere in the United States
I have had these offers before. My answer “No thanks. It’s too expensive.”
- You see, I don’t buy many Brand Name items since, even with the coupons, I can find a less expensive item that is comparable.
- As for the vacation, we would have to find someone to milk the cows while we are away and that would also be an expense to avoid.
What is a “Free” that is really free? Free is something that is given to another. The price is paid in full by the giver. The benefit of the gift belongs to the one receiving the gift.
God has given a gift to all who will receive it. It is eternal life. Jesus Christ paid for it in full. The benefit of this gift belongs to the one receiving it. The Holy Bible puts it this way, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 (RSV)
Now that is a “Free” that really is free. I hope you have received it.
