My daughter found an abandoned newborn kitten. Our veterinarian had given us a recipe for “Puppy and Kitten formula”. So we set out to use it.
ORPHAN PUPPY & KITTEN FORMULA from our veterinarian, Dr. Jim Parker
First 2 weeks
1 cup evaporated milk
¼ cup water
1 egg yolk
1 tsp. honey or corn syrup
2-3 drops corn oil
Warm to body temperature. Feed in small amounts often.
At 2 weeks of age start on solids: cottage cheese, cooked cereals, raw hamburger, and liver.
At 4 weeks, feed moistened Puppy or Kitten Chow.

We used the ingredients that were available to us at the time and they worked. Our kitten lived to adulthood as a beloved part of our family.
Substitute Kitten Formula we used for our abandoned a 1-day old kitten
1-1½ cup raw milk
1 whole egg, well beaten
2 Tb. honey or corn syrup
2-3 drops vegetable oil
For your information, see “Diary on How to Feed an Abandoned Kitten” in my next blog. In it you can see how this formula worked for us. You may find a need for this information some day. I hope it is helpful.
